“There Are Far, Far Better Things Ahead, Which We Left Behind” | The Story Of How Camping Saved Me

Stress ‘n Failure. The two things that crush today’s generation. Very easily that too.  And I was one of those who were trapped in the same daily timetable.

Being a banker has always been stressing. Each value and record has to be taken care. Banking is a great place to get a stamp of approval from the world. It validates your intelligence, your education. If you have the brand name of a major bulge bracket bank on your résumé, it proves that you have been through the grind and can work hard.

We were always taught to control and manage our stress and deal with daily anxiety.  Yet, even after all that, fighting against it has been really challenging. The stress is great and the pressure is too much. The workload keeps increasing overnight and the deadlines seem really crazy.

My frustrations were at the tip of my nose. I was permanently stressed, and this carried over to different parts of my life. It reached a point where it took very little to provoke a reaction. You have to be fast and on the edge and alert all the time in your work, and you begin to expect the same instant gratification from the rest of the world. And with time passing, I gradually lost the ability to empathize. There are people out there with far greater problems than bankers, who are so much worse off. But somehow people in investment banks like me began to lose touch with reality.

The Commencement…!

One day, I snapped at my fiancee for something very silly. I got angry with my parents and left the house so I could just be at peace. Thinking about all that happened, I realized I messed up. And I got to have my escape.

Meditations and Camping. I guess I never realized how important they were until then. Meditation became my everyday routine. 20 minutes of deep silence, trying to balance the centre of my mind. It really helped control my excitement and emotions greatly. In fact, I never felt better.

Most importantly, camping was the one that did the magic. At first, I wasn’t too excited about it. The prices didn’t round off a pretty number. And being the miser I was, it added up to the pile of excuses I created for not going camping. After a push from my fiancee, I forced myself to experience it. And I have to say, I am glad she forced me to leave that time. Else, I would have missed this unforgettable experience.

I teamed up with a group of bikers who knew my brother. The social anxiety in me tried to hold me in place, but then they came down as extremely carefree and friendly people, They were easy to mingle and talk to. I wouldn’t deny that they did look intimidating. And they agreed to it too. But it’s their carefree nature that makes them so great to talk to. Usually almost everyone possesses a carefree nature while on a trip. As a matter of fact, people of new day ain’t finding enough time to spend with nature, accordingly, you may find less happy-go-lucky people.

The Expedition……!

4 days. Destinations: Wayanad, Ooty, Brahmagiri Wildlife Reserve, Mysore. My large travel backpack. My trusty old Thunderbird. I rode through different towns. Different stops. Different terrains. The happy full tank never lets me down. Winds ripping across my face as the sceneries changed, I began to realize the things I missed out in life. The beauty that surrounds me. The surroundings, I’m within.

Our first stopover was @ Arrow Hill Campsite – Wayanad. A breathtaking scenery greeted our tired bodies ‘n booties. Everything about it was just magical and enchanting. This campsite is surely for those who are a bit adventurous in nature. Located at the top of Ambukuthi Mala with an eye-popping view. Exuberantly located on the hill pavement midst of a tribal colony. Must-do for Bikers and Riders who love off-roading. And a night trek, which will enthral you. The night we spent there was very much memorable. What I’ve experienced was way better than what I have expected. I was afraid whether it would be haunting during the night, but, it wasn’t.

ThankYou Campper…!

Campper gave us the opportunity to visit one of these camps and provided us with all these great facilities. Mr. Priyesh, thanks for those great and magical moments man. You were a great host. Hat’s Off Campper. The next stop was @ Greenwoods Nature Camp – Ooty. It was a great experience. After that. It was Mysore. And then the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.

Campper was my great escape. They helped the entire team plan ahead the trip and calculate the expenses like a co-traveller. In fact, they gave me great offers and deals on some amazing spots.

Moreover, the escape from all that fatigue really did help me. I have never felt more peaceful with myself. I got married two months before. And a week before, I took my wife to Camp Woody – Suryanelli, again all with the help of Campper.
Thank you all so much for those tremendous experiences.
